The Process
Waterproof
The charred surface creates a layer of carbon which creates a water repellent surface. In combination with a penetrating oil stain the "Charred" look has a complete waterproof surface.
The charred surface creates a barrier that prevents moisture from penetrating the wood. Hence, preventing any rot and mold from excess moisture.
Rot and Mold Resistant
The ability to resist water penetration, mold growth and pests allows the wood to remain in prime condition for decades, even centuries.

The charred surface is indigestible to many bugs/pest which prevents them from penetrating deeper into the wood. The oil stain will also prevent bugs from making nests on the wood
